On April 29, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov visited the UAE and held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the UAE, Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Both sides do not specify the details of the meeting, limiting themselves only to general formulations.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the meetings discussed issues of cooperation in the fight against the pandemic, in trade, economic and investment areas, as well as specific steps to promote the agreements reached during previous visits of Turkmen delegations to the UAE.

The UAE Foreign Ministry reports that the parties raised the issues of “recent global and regional developments.”

In recent years, Ashgabat has regularly sent delegations to the UAE, which are trying to attract investment in various projects in Turkmenistan. Thus, earlier, the Turkmen side received a loan for the construction of a chemical plant for the production of mixed mineral fertilizers in Turkmenabat, a $100 million loan for the construction of an airport in the city of Jebel, Balkan velayat, and a hybrid solar-wind power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts in the Serdar etrap, Balkan velayat.

Turkmenistan also offers the Abu Dhabi Development Fund to invest $175 million in the construction of a plant for the production of polyvinyl acetate in the Dashoguz velayat. It is planned to repay the loan with manufactured products.
